Sergio Aguero scored a dramatic late winner to clinch the Premier League title for Manchester City in Here, Press Association Sport looks at some of the greatest games in history.
Two attack-minded sides produced a compelling attacking spectacle on the game's greatest stage with a brilliant, Pele-inspired Brazil ultimately proving too strong in Mexico City. Pele headed the opener before having a hand in two others after a Roberto Boninsegna equaliser. Gerson put Brazil back ahead, Jairzinho added another and captain Carlos Alberto crowned victory with a memorable fourth.Fanuc eds file download
Liverpool's fifth European title came after a dramatic recovery from a half-time deficit in Istanbul. Three quickfire goals in an exhilarating five-minute spell from Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso took the match to extra-time and the Reds prevailed in a penalty shoot-out as Jerzy Dudek made two saves.
Stanley Matthews inspired Blackpool's recovery from down to claim the greatest prize of his career at Wembley. The great England winger brought the Tangerines back into the game by setting up a second for Stan Mortensen, who then completed a hat-trick by equalising from a free-kick.
Bill Perry won the game in injury time after more fine work from Matthews. England were given a rude wake-up call as they were slayed by the Magnificent Magyars at Wembley, their first defeat on home soil to a side from continental Europe. They were on the back foot from the outset with Nandor Hidegkuti scoring the first of his hat-trick in the second minute.
Ferenc Puskas, whose forward combination with Sandor Kocsis was devastating, added two and Jozsef Bozsik another in clinical display of attacking football not previously seen in England. Frankfurt took an early lead but that spurred Madrid into action with Di Stefano hitting a hat-trick and Puskas helping himself to four.
Frankfurt's other two goals were mere consolations in the latter stages. Portuguese giants Benfica ended Real Madrid's early monopoly of the European Cup in and then beat the Spanish side in the final the following year by twice coming from behind. Ferenc Puskas scored a first-half hat-trick for Madrid but Benfica kept in touch and were level early in the second half. Eusebio then took charge, scoring twice, the first from the penalty spot, to secure victory. A seemingly run-of-the-mill semi-final suddenly exploded into life after Karl-Heinz Schnellinger struck an injury-time equaliser to send the game into extra-time.
Gerd Muller then put the Germans ahead, forcing the hitherto cautious Italy to respond. Goals from Tarcisio Burgnich and Gigi Riva put them back in charge but they needed a late winner from Gianni Rivera after Muller made it In a match of controversy and drama, West Germany recovered from down to prevail in a shoot-out after goalkeeper Harald Schumacher escaped punishment for a horrendous foul on Patrick Battiston.
With the scorethe outrushing Schumacher flung himself at Battiston, knocking him unconscious and dislodging two of his teeth. France recovered from the injustice to take a lead in extra-time but Karl-Heinz Rummenigge replied and a spectacular overhead kick from Klaus Fischer took the game to penalties, when Schumacher made the decisive save from Maxime Bossis.
European champions France ousted a highly-fancied Brazil side on penalties after an end-to-end encounter. Careca and Michel Platini traded goals in the first half but both sides spurned numerous chances. Muller hit the post for Brazil and Zico missed a penalty, while Dominique Rocheteau missed an open goal for France.
Socrates and Platini both missed in the shoot-out but France went through after Julio Cesar hit the post. City went into the final game of the season knowing victory over relegation-threatened QPR would secure the title but it took them until injury time to pull it out of the bag.
As City surrendered a lead to fall behind, rivals Manchester United won at Sunderland to put one hand on the trophy. Edin Dzeko equalised with the 90 minutes up before Sergio Aguero struck a dramatic winner to send the crown City's way deep into added-on time. Premier League.

The offense, the team with possession of the oval-shaped football, attempts to advance down the field by running with the ball or passing it, while the defensethe team without possession of the ball, aims to stop the offense's advance and to take control of the ball for themselves. The offense must advance at least ten yards in four downs or plays; if they fail, they turn over the football to the defense, but if they succeed, they are given a new set of four downs to continue the drive.
Points are scored primarily by advancing the ball into the opposing team's end zone for a touchdown or kicking the ball through the opponent's goalposts for a field goal. The team with the most points at the end of a game wins. American football evolved in the United States, originating from the sports of soccer and rugby.
The first American football match was played on November 6,between two college teams, Rutgers and Princeton, using rules based on the rules of soccer at the time. A set of rule changes drawn up from onward by Walter Campthe "Father of American Football", established the snap, the line of scrimmage, eleven-player teams, and the concept of downs.
Later rule changes legalized the forward pass, created the neutral zone and specified the size and shape of the football. The sport is closely related to Canadian footballwhich evolved in parallel with and at the same time as the American game although their rules were developed independently from that of Camp's.

The players wear protective equipment, including a helmet with face-mask, shoulder pads, thigh pads, and often a mouth guard. A team has four chances, or "downs", to advance the ball 10 yards while the opposing team tries to stop it.
Certain players advance the ball by carrying or throwing it. Teams can score by advancing the ball to the other team's end zone or by kicking the ball through a goalpost placed at the back of the end zone. American football is carefully regulated by time and rules, which are enforced by officials, who also determine when a team scores.
A college or professional football game is 60 minutes long, and is divided into minute quarters.

In high schools, the quarters are 12 minutes long, and games for younger children are often shorter still. After the first two quarters, the teams rest during halftime. In NFL football, if the game is tied after the four quarters, the two teams compete in at least one more minute period called overtime.
A touchdown is achieved when a player has legal possession of the ball and the ball crosses an imaginary vertical plane above the opposing team's goal line. After a touchdown, the scoring team attempts a try for 1 or 2 points. A successful touchdown is signaled by an official extending both arms vertically above the head. Published in November Top of the pile is a game that had more plot twists than a Hollywood screenwriter could muster in his wildest imagination. The Germans opened the scoring through a Pierre Littbarski strike in the 17th minute but the French levelled nine minutes later via a Michel Platini penalty. The drama really began after an hour when a long through ball sent French substitute Patrick Battiston through on goal; he flicked it past German keeper Schumacher who blatantly made no attempt to play the ball and clattered into the defenceless Battiston's head with his hip.
The ball drifted agonisingly wide of the post and to the astonishment of the world, Dutch referee Charles Corver awarded a goal kick.
The French players raced to their stricken colleague who was unconscious, had lost two teeth and had damaged vertebrae. As emergency medics administered oxygen on the pitch to Battiston - who later slipped into a coma but made a full recovery - Schumacher stood there waiting to take the goal kick, taunting the French fans. The men in blue were victims of a grave injustice and the incident reignited historical French-German antagonism. Then a further cruel blow was dealt to Les Blues as Manuel Amoros's piledriver crashed against the crossbar in the final minute.
The game went into extra time and on 92 minutes, French sweeper Marius Tresor fired home a volley to make it before six minutes later, Alain Giresse drove in a sweet shot that nestled, off the inside of Schumacher's right post.Dna astrology vishal
Giresse celebrated exuberantly believing that France were poised to make their first World Cup final appearance. But four minutes later Karl-Heinz Rummenigge turned in at the near post and in the th minute Klaus Fischer volleyed the ball past French keeper Jean-Luc Ettori with one of his trademark bicycle kicks.
Successful kicks from Littbarski, Platini and Rummenigge meant sudden death where a tame penalty by Maxime Bossis was saved by that man Schumacher. It was left to Horst Hrubesch, a solid, hulking man of physical strength who represented the antithesis of the French way, who stepped up confidently to consign France to another heartbreaking defeat and complete the greatest match of all-time.
First Division title decider - Liverpool Arsenal. Arsenal headed into the season finale at Anfield needing to win by two goals to take the title on goal difference - and foil Liverpool's attempts to win another Double.
It was an improbable task, given the Reds' air of invincibility at the time and their players and fans' strong desire to win it for those who recently perished at Hillsborough. But the match never went Liverpool's way. Alan Smith put the Gunners ahead with his 23rd goal of a prolific season, a 52nd minute header past Bruce Grobbelaar that silenced the Kop.When war was declared on 4 Augustit was expected that the Football Association FA would follow the example soon set by cricket and cancel all matches.
But, despite opposition, matches were played in the Football League throughout the season and the FA Cup held as normal. For the remainder of the war, the Football League suspended its programme but allowed clubs to organise regional competitions.
Much of the opposition to the continuance of professional football stemmed from the concern that many men preferred to play and watch football rather than join up. However, football was also seen as a useful recruiting tool. Football was also a popular form of recreation for troops on both sides and could boost morale. This was probably intended as a distraction for nervous young soldiers but was widely reported as a demonstration of British pluck.
Many professional footballers served in the forces. During the First World War, more thanwomen worked in munitions factories. Most factories employed a welfare officer to monitor the health, wellbeing and behaviour of their new female work force.
Sport, especially football, was encouraged and many munitions factories developed their own ladies football teams. Founded intheir matches drew large crowds. They continued to enjoy success until women were banned from playing in Football League grounds in Matches were played between teams from different factories and in north-east England, a cup competition was established.
Troops on the Western Front would spend considerable periods of time behind the lines. To keep men fit and active and to maintain morale, sport was encouraged and in many cases officially sanctioned. This photograph, taken Septembershows a football match in progress involving the 1st Battalion, the Wiltshire Regiment at Bouzincourt on the Somme.
Football was widely used as a tool for recruiting men for the forces. This football was presented in November to Lieutenant Jack Shaw, who organised games between prisoners at Holzminden camp.
It is signed by his fellow officer POWs. Football helped officers and orderlies to keep fit, although the Camp Commandant often stopped or prevented these games taking place. Only nine-a-side matches could be played in the camp due to lack of space. Many of the footballs were sent to POWs via Holland.
